Puri an attractive place to relax! Visit now !!

Traveling to Puri is an experience in itself as you rekindle your faith and set off on a journey of a lifetime. For Hindu pilgrims, Puri is one of the holiest places of worship in all of India. Religious life revolves around the great Jagannath Temple that provides a unique insight into Hindu mythology and culture.

Puri is also known for its long sandy beaches, perfect for an evening stroll. Since the 1970s, foreigners have visited Puri for religious and spiritual cleansing. Even today, backpacking thrives with foreigners for budget holidays. Also known for its scenic beauty, Puri has captured the imaginative eyes of movie makers from across the world.

Before you travel, choose from several hotels in Puri that provide you with a suitable accommodation based on your travel budget. With a short but comfortable flight on Singapore Airlines, you require a connecting flight to Bhubaneshwar and then a taxi onward to Puri.
  • Here are my top 3 must-see places to travel to in Puri:

Konark Sun Temple

Derived from the Sanskrit words Kona (Angle) and Ark (Sun), the 13th century temple is dedicated to the Sun God, Surya. The Konark Sun Temple is about 35 kilometres from Puri. Built by King Narasimhadeva I, its unique architecture captures its rich cultural heritage on its temple walls and documents Hindu mythology. This historic temple is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and stands as a testament to rich Indian architecture, and religious and cultural significance.

Puri Beach

For pleasant strolls across white sandy beaches and calm waters, the Puri Beach is a delight for tourists of all shapes and sizes. There are several portions of the beach that are cordoned off for resorts from the general public. Several stalls dot the shore and provide great seafood. In fact, these stalls have access to best catch of the day as they dole out fresh fish and prawn dishes. Beach-goers also revel in water sports and photograph the break of dawn amongst the other activities on the beach.

Lingaraja Temple

The Hindu temple of Lingaraja is dedicated to Harihara, a form of Shiva and Vishnu. Considered as one of the oldest temples in the state, it is a prominent landmark for devotees from places near and far. The 180 feet Central Tower represents the 12th Century Kalinga Architectural style at Bhubaneshwar. Built in the Deula style, the temple comprises of four components namely the Vimana, Jagamohana, Natamandira and Bhoga-mandapa. Within the high rise walls, the temple complex contains 50 other shrines.

These are three of the must-see places in Puri that will give you the relaxed, calm and serenity that you are longing for on your next holiday.
